Feds Arrest Bahamian Man In Georgia Over Violent Record And Illegal Voting

Federal authorities in Georgia have arrested a Bahamian national with a history of violent felony convictions after investigators discovered he cast an illegal ballot in the 2020 election, according to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents with Homeland Security Investigations Atlanta took Anthony Tyrone Higgs into custody on September 3 in Decatur, Georgia. Higgs is currently being held by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations as the government moves to revoke his legal residency and deport him.

Higgs first entered the United States as a lawful permanent resident in October 1976. Over the decades, his criminal record accumulated multiple convictions, including armed robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of possessing a weapon during a violent crime, two counts of grand larceny, criminal domestic violence, assault on a police officer, and resisting arrest.

An HSI inquiry completed in August 2026 confirmed that Higgs also voted illegally in the 2020 general election.

“This criminal alien from the Bahamas has a rap sheet for multiple violent crimes, including armed robbery, domestic violence, and assault on a police officer,” DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said. “On top of all of that, he illegally voted in the 2020 election. If even one non-citizen votes in our elections, it cancels out the vote of an American citizen. Thanks to the hard work of the men and women of ICE, this criminal will be removed from our country and can never interfere in our elections again.”

The arrest fits into a wider push by the Trump administration to investigate and prosecute non-citizens taking part in U.S. elections.

Federal agencies have announced several similar cases over the past several months:

  • In August, Colombian national Carlos Felipe Jaramillo-Grajales received a three-year prison sentence following an ICE probe into identity theft he used to cast ballots for more than two decades.
  • In July, HSI arrested Marian Charitun of Slovakia for voting in New Jersey during the 2022 midterm elections.
  • Also in July, investigators arrested Australian national Denise Nataly Migliore in Louisiana for voting in both the 2022 and 2024 elections.
  • In May, the Department of Justice and DHS charged four non-citizens in New Jersey with voting in federal contests and lying on citizenship paperwork.
  • In April, Mexican citizen Jose Ceballos pleaded guilty in Kansas to three counts of disorderly election conduct after voting multiple times under a false claim of U.S. citizenship.
  • In March, ICE took Mauritanian national Mahady Sacko into custody for voting in American elections dating back to 2008.

Alongside individual arrests, the Department of Homeland Security has rolled out broader policy changes aimed at voter registration rolls. In June, the agency told ICE officers to seek deportation and stricter legal penalties for non-citizens who cast ballots.

By July, Secretary Mullin issued warning letters to multiple secretaries of state regarding non-citizen voter registrations, while the Federal Emergency Management Agency began tying certain grant funds to local election integrity compliance.
