US Rejects UN Two-State Solution Conference, Citing Diplomatic Harm

“Publicity Stunt” Undermines Peace Efforts, Rewards Hamas, State Department Says

The United States today sharply criticized and announced its rejection of an upcoming United Nations conference on the two-state solution, labeling it an “unproductive and ill-timed” publicity stunt that threatens to derail delicate diplomatic efforts to end the current conflict.

In a press statement released this afternoon, Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated the conference, set to be hosted by the UN in New York City this week, would “prolong the war, embolden Hamas, and reward its obstruction,” ultimately undermining genuine peace initiatives.

“As Secretary Rubio has made clear, this effort is a slap in the face to the victims of October 7th and a reward for terrorism. It keeps hostages trapped in tunnels,” Bruce asserted. She confirmed the United States would not participate in what it views as an “insult,” reiterating Washington’s commitment to leading “real-world efforts to end the fighting and deliver a permanent peace.”

The State Department emphasized its focus remains on “serious diplomacy: not stage-managed conferences designed to manufacture the appearance of relevance.”

The statement also took aim at recent international actions, specifically mentioning President Macron’s announcement about recognizing a Palestinian state. Bruce noted this move was “welcomed by Hamas” and described it as part of a “pattern of counterproductive gestures that only emboldens Hamas, encourages its obstruction of a ceasefire, and greatly undercuts our diplomatic efforts to end the suffering in Gaza, free the hostages, and move the whole Middle East towards a brighter and more prosperous future.”

The US stance underscores a growing divergence in international approaches to resolving the ongoing conflict, with Washington prioritizing direct diplomatic engagement over what it perceives as symbolic or premature actions.
