Flock CEO Garrett Langley speaks up against the Los Angeles Police Department cancelling their contract with Flock
He says the public just doesn’t understand what Flock cameras actually do, and that’s why they’re hesitant. He says he’s working to turn the cameras back on in LA
“We gotta tighten up the policy, make sure everyone's aligned, and then turn it back on”
He explains that Flock simply takes a static picture and isn’t collecting that much data
This is just simply not true. We’ve literally seen their condor camera track people walking, the camera locks onto you and moves with you as you walk
These people think we’re idiots
He says the cameras don’t have facial recognition and that’s true, but they certainly have the ability to have facial recognition
A simple software update could easily enable it. They are capturing high resolution photos and video of people
Because clear face images are being recorded and retained, that footage could be run through facial recognition software by police or other agencies that have access to it, even if Flock itself is not doing the matching
