A grandmother spent five months in jail for a crime she did not commit, in a state she had never visited, after AI facial recognition technology wrongly linked her to bank fraud. It was her first time on a plane when police flew her a thousand miles to Fargo to face charges.
This is happening right now, and it is part of a much larger shift in how law enforcement is using AI to make decisions that destroy people's lives.
