FDA Proposes Expanding Sunscreen Active Ingredient List

FDA News Release

NIH Abstract on Bemotrizinol (BEMT)

From Grok

Bemotrizinol (also known as Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, or commonly marketed as Tinosorb S) is a highly effective chemical UV filter widely used in sunscreens across Europe.

It has been approved in the European Union since 2000 (with a maximum concentration of up to 10%) and is considered one of the best broad-spectrum filters available. It absorbs both UVA and UVB rays, is extremely photostable (doesn't break down quickly in sunlight), helps stabilize other filters like avobenzone, and has a strong safety profile with minimal skin penetration or irritation.
