FBI’s “Arctic Frost” Targeted 92 GOP Groups And Individuals, Including Kirk’s Turning Point USA
FBI Investigation Into 2020 Election Was Far Broader Than Previously Known, Records Show
Newly released records from the FBI’s “Arctic Frost” investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election reveal the probe was significantly more extensive than previously known, targeting 92 Republican organizations and individuals.
The documents, made public by Senators Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.) during an oversight hearing, show the investigation went beyond President Donald Trump to include key Republican entities and operatives.
The records indicate that the FBI subpoenaed communications and financial data from a wide range of groups, including the Republican National Committee (RNC), the Republican Attorneys General Association, and the late Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA.
According to Senator Grassley, the investigation was a “vehicle by which partisan FBI agents and DOJ prosecutors could achieve their partisan ends and improperly investigate the entire Republican political apparatus.”
The subpoenas sought to uncover whether these groups and individuals conspired with Trump to reverse the election results through various means, such as filing false fraud claims, organizing alternative slates of electors, or attempting to pressure Vice President Mike Pence to reject the official electoral count.
The revelations emerged during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing with FBI Director Kash Patel. Grassley, who chaired the hearing, criticized the “infected with politics” state of the FBI under Patel’s predecessor, Christopher Wray.
Patel, in turn, highlighted his efforts to restore the agency’s focus on law enforcement and combatting violent crime, citing significant increases in document releases to Congress and settlements with whistleblowers.
The hearing also touched on the ongoing investigation into the assassination of Charlie Kirk, which Patel stated was aided by the FBI’s quick release of video footage of the alleged assassin, Tyler Robinson.
Patel confirmed Robinson’s DNA was found at the crime scene and that a note he wrote about “taking out Charlie Kirk” had been discovered. The FBI is now working to track down members of a chatroom Robinson was part of on the social media platform Discord.
The extensive scope of the “Arctic Frost” investigation has drawn sharp criticism from Senate Republicans, who argue it represents a political weaponization of federal law enforcement agencies. This sentiment was echoed in a recent court decision that dismissed charges against 15 Michigan Republicans who had organized as an alternative slate of electors.
